NPC recently concluded its series of information campaigns in Bulacan for Angat Dam operations. The annual lecture series is part of NPC’s aim of increasing awareness and responsiveness of communities on dam operations. It included discussions on the NPC Dam Safety Program, flood forecasting and warning system for the Pampanga River basin, flood forecasting, and dam discharge warning operations of PAGASA, among others.
The discussions were led by invited speakers from NPC, PAGASA, Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS), National Irrigation Administration (NIA) and Bulacan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office. Also gracing the last leg of the series was Ms. Shelby A. Ruiz of the Office of Civil Defense Region 3 who encouraged the participants to echo the learning in their respective areas.
Likewise, the information drive intends to strengthen the capacity of the local government units in dealing with flood-related hazards and in getting acquainted with how different agencies work together in times of typhoons and other calamities.
NPC’s next leg of the information and education campaigns will be in communities near the San Roque Dam in Pangasinan.
On top of its mandate on missionary electrification, NPC also manages 11 watershed reservations that support power generation and oversees the five large dams in Luzon, Angat, Caliraya, San Roque, Ambuklao and Binga Dams.
