As part of the watershed awareness campaign by NPC-Caliraya Lumot Watershed Area Team (CLWAT) to promote the conservation and protection of the Caliraya-Lumot Watershed Forest Reserve (CLWFR), a series of lectures were conducted in schools in Paete, Laguna on 3 December 2024.
The lectures were conducted in four schools, namely Tubog Elementary School, Papatahan Elementary School, Poten & Eliseo M. Quesada memorial National High School (Annex), and Stand Alone Senior High School No. 21 Papatahan. Approximately 70 participants, both students and faculty members from each school, participated in the sessions.
The objective of these lectures focuses on NPC’s mission, programs, and activities as well as the critical role of the CLWFR in power generation and ecological balance. Challenges such as illegal activities were also discussed to encourage students to adopt conservation practices and urged to take proactive roles in protecting and safeguarding the watershed for future generations.
Students actively engaged in discussions and showed interest in learning more about the watershed reservation. These initiatives are anticipated to significantly broaden their awareness and foster a deep understanding and appreciation for environmental conservation.
