NPC holds tree planting, welcomes grad students of CBSUA in Buhi-Barit Watershed

NPC – Buhi Barit Watershed Area Team has recently arranged an eco-tour for the Graduate students of Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA) – Sipocot in the watershed reservation in Buhi, Camarines Sur.

The activity is part of the students’ field study on Environmental Resource Valuation. The students who are taking up master’s in science – Resource Management and master’s in science in Agricultural Education have also spared time to plant trees as their contribution to climate change mitigation. 100 seedlings of kalumpit (Terminalia microcarpa) and tugawe (pometia pinnata) were planted along the perimeter of Lakelet Manapao of the watershed.

The eco-tour included a discussion on the field study by campus research director, Ms. Lourdes L. Nieva, Ph D. who likewise extended her gratitude to BBWAT for the tour.

Buhi-Barit is under NPC’s stewardship along with 10 other watersheds in the country that aids power generation.

NPC conducts 'Puno mula sa Puso' project in Albay

In celebration of Valentine’s day, NPC’s Tiwi Watershed Area Team (TWAT) led a tree planting activity on February 14 dubbed as 'Puno mula sa Puso'  in Tumana Project Site, Tiwi, Albay.

The said activity is an annual program of TWAT which aims to raise environmental awareness and promote shared responsibility among the local stakeholders. The participants included representatives from schools, the local government, Philippine Geothermal production Co. Inc., (PGPCI) and Aboitiz Power Renewables, Inc. (APRI).

A total of 1,000 seedlings were distributed and planted which includes acacia (Samanea saman), ous (Sterculiaglavioflora), igot (Syzygium escritorii), dao (Dracontomelon dao) and santol (Sandoricum koetjape).

Tiwi Watershed, a 17,661-hectare reservation in Albay, is one of the 11 watersheds that support power generation being managed by NPC.

NPC MinGen holds medical and dental mission

To provide utmost care to its stakeholders in Mindanao, the NPC Mindanao Generation holds a medical-dental mission in the Municipality of Tangcal in Lanao del Sur. The program which serviced hundreds of people was held in cooperation of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

NPC MinGen joins locals in mangrove planting in Iligan

As part of its corporate social responsibility program, NPC’s Mindanao Generation joined a Magroove Planting at Barangay Fuentes, Iligan City in cooperation with Philippine Coast Guard, Philippine Ports Authority (PPA), and Barangay Fuentes, Iligan City.

NPC-MinGen planted 300 mangroves which they will also monitor and nourish regularly.

NPC holds environmental film showing in 10 schools within the Tiwi Geothermal Reservation

To inculcate the importance of watershed and its conservation, NPC’s Tiwi Watershed Area Team conducted and recently finished ten (10) sessions of school lecture and film showing in various primary and secondary schools in Tiwi, Albay.

The participants of the said activity are Grades 5 and 6 and Grades 11 and 12 who resides within the Tiwi Geothermal Reservation.

Through the lecture and film, students are made to reflect as well on their contributions to the environment and what else they can do for its preservation.

Tiwi Geothermal Reservation is one of the watershed areas under NPC’s jurisdiction. It supports the Tiwi Geothermal Power Plant in Albay.

NPC’s TWAT conducts livestock dispersal program

In its pursuit to improve the lives of the people within the community it serves, NPC through its Tiwi Watershed Area Team (TWAT) has conducted livestock dispersal program which benefited 197 recipients in the Municipalities of Tiwi and Malinao in Albay.

NPC’s Visayas employees organizes a ‘therapeutic environmental exercise’

Seventy personnel from NPC SPUG Visayas on 29 August 2018 joined the Department’s coastal clean-up and tree planting in Barangay Pitalo in San Fernando, Cebu.

Unnerved by the sweltering heat, the participants gather various left over items, wooden debris, rubbers and plastics along the coastline of Brgy. Pitalo. They also planted 700 propagules, commonly known among locals as ‘bakhaw.’

Aside from being a physically engaging exercise, a lot of participants enthused that the activity is somehow therapeutic as it allowed them to give back to mother earth.

SPUG Visayas’ Officer-in-Charge Mr. Timmy T. Diacor said that to ensure the success of the tree planting, they will also construct bamboo fences to protect the seedlings.

“The activity is an annual activity of SPUG Visayas, this is our commitment for the environment,” Mr. Diacor said.

NPC trains communities in Albay on swine management

NPC through the Tiwi Watershed Area Team has recently conducted a two-day training on swine management for 114 beneficiaries of its livestock dispersal program in the municipalities of Tiwi and Malinao in Albay.
