As part of its rehabilitation program, NPC through the Tiwi Watershed Area Team (TWAT) organized a tree-planting and clean-up drive in Albay, tapping youth organizations, local government units, and private organizations in Tiwi and Malinao.

β€œThe tree planting activity and clean up drive were conducted to highlight the vital role of trees in climate change mitigation,” TWAT Section Chief Jairus Amistoso said.

Over 200 participants joined the activities held in the coastal and fisheries learning center in Barangay Baybay in Tiwi and Barangay Sta. Elena in Malinao.

The 1200 seedlings (rain tree, Bani, Talisay, Anonang, Lipote and Uos) were planted in various planting sites which were strategically selected along with the LGUs to ensure proper monitoring and protection.

Additionally, the volunteers collected ten (10) bags of garbage and managed by the respective LGUs for recycling and proper disposal.

The 17,661-hectare Tiwi Watershed Reservation is host to three municipalities or 49 barangays. Its most prominent topographic feature is Mount Malinao, a stratovolcano dome complex rising to a height of about 1600 meters above sea level. The reservation supports geothermal energy generation and is one of the 11 watersheds under NPC’s stewardship.
