
The National Power Corporation brings its generation and distribution services to Butawanan Island in Siruma, Camarines Sur, lighting up over 500 households and paving the way for progress for the 2,000 island residents.
On July 15, 2024, NPC switched on its two (2) generating sets (30 and 50kW) and its one-kilometer distribution line (7.97/13.8 kV) which will initially give eight 8 hours of electricity daily. This will be adjusted as soon as the demand is primed up.
Local government officials, community leaders, and other stakeholders gathered to witness the ceremony which also became a celebration of collaboration, highlighting the collective efforts to enhance the quality of life for the residents of Butawanan Island.
Among the guests present were Former Board Member Gerard F. Pilapil who represented Cong. Arnie B. Fuentebella, Hon. Carina Ramos-Polinga, DMD (Mayor, Municipality of Siruma), Hon. Roy P. Benavidez (Punong Barangay, Butawanan), Mr. John Paul S. Sta. Ana (Board of Director President, CASURECO II), Mr. Edgardo R. Piamonte (Acting General Manager, CASURECO II).
NPC’s team, on the other hand, were composed of Atty. Rogel T. Teves (Vice President, NPC – Power Engineering Services), Engr. Edwin T. Tatel (Manager, NPC – Luzon Operations Department), Engr. Eduardo T. Mallare (Officer-In-Charge, NPC – Project Management Department), Engr. Ariel B. Beo (Manager, NPC – Bicol Operations Division), and Engr. Bienvenido S. Basbas, Jr. (Officer-In-Charge, NPC – Project Implementation Cluster B).
As mandated by Republic Act 9136 or the Electric Power Industry Reform Act of 2001, NPC is tasked to bring electricity and associated power delivery systems to areas and communities not connected to the main grid. NPC fulfills this role by setting up power plants in off-grid areas and distribution facilities in areas waived by distribution utilities.
