Engr. Mark M. Gaspay, Principal Engineer B at the Office of the Vice President, Small Power Utilities Group (SPUG) of the National Power Corporation (NPC), has successfully completed the Renewable Energy A course under the Knowledge Co-Creation Program, organized by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in collaboration with the Conference of Earth Environment from Akita (CEEA). The program took place from July 9-25, 2024, in Akita Prefecture, Japan.
Mr. Gaspay was selected from a pool of numerous applicants for this prestigious scholarship program, representing NPC as one of the 13 government participants. During the training, they had the opportunity to visit renewable energy power plants across Akita Prefecture and attend lectures on the best practices in the industry.
With the knowledge and experience gained, Mr. Gaspay is set to conduct feasibility studies for implementing the Solar-Sharing System in SPUG areas. This innovative approach aims to balance the need for electricity with the reduction of carbon emissions while supporting agricultural activities.
The insights and expertise Mr. Gaspay brings back from this program will undoubtedly have a significant positive impact on the operations of SPUG-NPC, particularly in our ongoing efforts to enhance sustainable energy solutions in off-grid areas. NPC is also leaning towards the hybridization of SPUG areas, integrating renewable energy sources to further improve efficiency and sustainability.
