On September 9, 2024, the Samahan ng may Palaisdaan sa Lawa ng Lumot  (SPLL), in partnership with NPC-Caliraya Lumot Watershed Area Team (CLWAT), carried out its monthly water hyacinth  cleanup drive at Lumot Lake, Brgy. Paowin Cavinti Laguna.

The members of SPLL manually collected water hyacinths and other garbage using their boats. They clustererd nearby water hyacinths and, in some cases, used ropes to pull them ashore for collection. This task required hard work and “bayanihan” spirit, as SPLL members volunteered to do the job. 

This initiative was required also for those members renewing their permits as mandated by SPLL. The cleanup activity reinforced the shared responsibility of NPC and SPLL in preserving the lake’s integrity and aligned with NPC-Circular No.  94-34. 

The proliferation of water hyacinths is a major concern for the organization, and SPLL is committed to continuing these regular cleanups throughout the year 2024.
