The National Power Corporation and Philippine Geothermal Production Company (PGPC), Inc. signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on 08 November 2024, to seal its partnership in the rehabilitation of the open areas in Tiwi Geothermal Reservation (TGR). The agreement is part of the commitment of PGPC under the issued Land Use Permit (LUP) and Special Tree Cutting Permit (STCP) for the Mt. Malinao Geothermal Power Project (MGPP).

NPC President and CEO Fernando Martin Y. Roxas and PGPC’s President Napoleon L. Saporsantos led the signing along with the NPC OIC, Senior Vice-President, Resource Management Service, Mr. Emmanuel A. Umali, NPC OIC- Department Manager, Mr. Rosaoro C. Ortiz, and PGPC’s Director for Legal and Corporate Affairs, Atty. Ma. Fe Concepcion G. Lucero.

The MOA outlines PGPC’s commitment to nourishing 257 hectares of land in the Tiwi Geothermal Reservation that support the power plant operations. Under the agreement, NPC shall identify/delineate the tree planting areas and provide the necessary technical assistance in nursery operation, plantation establishment & protection activities. PGPC on the other hand, shall provide funding and manpower for the restoration of open areas in the Tiwi forests.

The Capalonga Mangrove Development Association, Inc. (CAMADA), has been tapped as partner of PGPC in the implementation of the Reforestation program.

As NPC and PGPC embark on this joint venture, the collaboration holds the promise of cultivating a greener, more sustainable future for the Tiwi Geothermal Reservation.
