NPC’s Upper Agno River Watershed Area team has recently joined the Sangguniang Kabataan of Catlubong in Buguias, Benguet in a tree-planting activity in three sitios of the village.
The activity aimed to solicit the participation of youth/learners in promoting watershed protection and involve them in protecting the remaining forest covers of Catlubong and of the municipality of Buguias.
The participants also cleaned and picked up trash in the surrounding areas of the spring.
After the planting, participants gathered at the barangay hall for a short information and education campaign and discussion. SK Chairperson Jermias Pilay stressed among his colleagues the important role of youth in forest preservation. Likewise, UARWAT shared the ill effects of destroying the community’s source of water and initiated a discussion on ways how to conserve forests and watersheds. The team also commended the initiative of SK Catlubong to care for the environment.
The Upper Agno River Watershed supports the private sector-operated Ambukalo and Binga Hydroelectric Power Plants in Benguet, and the San Roque Hydroelectric Power Plant in Pangasinan. It is one of the 11 watershed reservations under NPC management
