NPC conducts tree-planting in Bokod, Benguet

NPC-Upper Agno River Watershed Area Team (UARWAT) on June 3 conducted a tree-planting activity in partnership with Poodan Elementary School in Bokod, Benguet. The activity was not only in line with NPC’s rehabilitation program but also commemorates World Environment Day as declared by the United Nations Environment Programme.

UARWAT was able to tap 18 participants coming from Poodan ES and the local government. Together, the team planted 200 fruit-bearing seedlings in strategic areas in Barangay Ekip in Bokod.

Prior to the tree planting, a simple information drive was held among the participants to let them know the role of NPC and its Watershed Management Department in managing the Upper Agno River Watershed.

NPC - UARWAT said that the activity hopes to encourage the involvement of the community in its initiatives for the environment.

The Upper Agno River Watershed, one of NPC’s 11 watersheds, covers a total area of 123,000 ha located in the municipalities of Bokod, Kabayan, La Trinidad, Tublay, Buguias, and portions of Atok, Itogon, Mankayan and Bakun, in the Province of Benguet; municipalities of Tinoc and Hungduan in Ifugao; Bauko in Mountain Province; and Kayapa in Nueva Vizcaya.
