Three SPUG power plants in Tawi-Tawi gets 24/7 power

To give its local economy further boost, the National Power Corporation on Tuesday, January 15 launched the 24/7 power supply of 29 barangays in three towns of Tawi-Tawi.

The said barangays are covered by NPC SPUG’s West Simunul, Tandubas and Tandubanak Diesel Power Plants. The round the clock power benefits more than 2,000 household and is expected to further empower the local industries that includes agriculture, seaweed farming and fishing.

The launching of the 24/7 was held in Bongao, Tawi-Tawi. It was led by Simunul Mayor Nazif-Ahmad B. Abdurahman, Sibutu Mayor Alshefa J. Pajiji, Hji. Nixon A. Asdaza of Tandubas, Atty Dayang Dayang Khadja Baguinda from the Office of the Governor and NPC’s Mindanao Operation’s Department headed by Mr. Nestor Flauta.

Also present in the launching were Tawi-Tawi Electric Cooperative’s Board President Sildrick S. Alibasa at General Manager Habibiya A. Sangoyo.

In 2018, NPC increased the operating hours of 25 power plants 17 of which were granted 24/7. It benefited 28,000 households in off-grid islands and far-flung communities.
