NPC through its Dams Management Department has purchased 15 new vehicles to fortify its program in effectively disseminating information and warning messages to communities during water discharge of Angat Dam.

The vehicles will replace the ageing and dilapidated patrol vehicles of the Flood Forecasting and Warning System for Dam Operations of NPC and PAGASA in Angat Dam.

The purchase of new vehicles is part of the second contract package under the Angat Dam and Dyke Strengthening Project. Other portions of the said package, which will be undertaken by NPC, are enhancement of the basic flood forecasting and warning; enhancement of communication network; automation and remote operation of the spillway gates; water flow measurement of turbines and bypass valves; supply and installation of X-band Doppler Radar and weather satellite ground receiver; and hiring of technical personnel which all have a total project fund of 237 million.

Other packages of the project are being undertaken by the Angat Hydropower Corporation and the Provincial Government of Bulacan.

Angat dam is operated by NPC for and in behalf of the national government. It is the source of Metro Manila’s 97% water supply, irrigates thousands of farmlands in Bulacan and Pampanga, and supports the 218 MW Angat Hydroelectric Power Plant.
