NPC holds groundbreaking of solar power plant in Limasawa Island
NPC on Wednesday holds the groundbreaking ceremony for its first solar-diesel hybrid power plant in the historic island municipality of Limasawa in Southern Leyte.
The 54-million-peso project will have 120 kilowatt peak solar installation and 120 kWh energy storage system. It is expected to lower the prices of electricity for the island’s residents and promote further the use of renewable energy in the missionary areas.
Leading the ceremony were Southern Leyte Vice Governor Jessica E. Pano, Limasawa Mayor Melchor Petracorta, NPC’s Vice President for Power Engineering Services Atty. Rogel T. Teves and NPC’s Visayas Operations Department led by Engr. Pete Llorente. Also present were the local government units, residents of Limasawa and representatives from the Southern Leyte Electric Cooperative and the winning bidder for the project, Power Dimension, Inc.
