NPC reinforces watershed team in Bukidnon, builds centralized office for all environment-preservation activities
The National Power Corporation on March 18 has inaugurated its Watershed Management Complex and Training Center in Maramag, Bukidnon, allowing a centralized venue for the corporation’s efforts in protecting and preserving the portion (40,772 hectares) of the Pulangi Watershed under its jurisdiction.
The simple ceremony was graced by NPC’s Vice President for Mindanao Generation, Mr. Edmundo A. Veloso who commended the Pulangi Watershed team in bringing meaningful programs in fruition. The team was also present and led by their Division Manager Mr. Kharis R. Maranda and section chief, Mr. Ericson M. Mendoza.
Also known as the Upper Pulangui Watershed, the reservation is the major source of water of NPC’s Pulangui IV Hydroelectric Power Plant which has a capacity of 255 MW.
NPC’s major programs for the reservation include livelihood programs for communities (farm animals dispersal, coffee and rubber plantation), and agroforestry.
Pulangi Watershed is co-managed by NPC with the DENR. It is one of the 11 watersheds that support power generation that is being taken care of by NPC.
