NPC energizes Pilas Island in Basilan

The National Power Corporation on Thursday, October 29 inaugurates its Pilas Diesel Power Plant in Hadji Muhtamad, Basilan bringing electricity to some 780 households in the island municipality.

Located in the southeast of Hadji Muhtamad and west of Basilan, Pilas Island’s residents are mostly the Sama Banguingui tribe whose primary source of income is fishing.

NPC’s SPUG Mindanao led a modest switching on ceremony of the two (2) units of 100kW modular gensets that will initially give 8 hours of daily power supply to the island.

On the same day, Basilan Electric Cooperative, Inc (BASELCO) also inaugurated its distribution line in the area, allowing household access to SPUG’s power supply.

The joint ceremonies was attended by Gov. Hadjiman Hataman-Salliman, Mayor Nerwelyn L. Mansul, Baselco’s General Manager Mr. Dusib H. Durapan and Board President Mr. Nick O. Acdalin. NPC officials present were led by SPUG-MOD’s Engr. Yahcob H. Darayan, Engr. Omar C. Antocan, Engr. Lovey Joy P. Garcia and Engr. Eduardo T. Mallare.

Mayor Mansul, in her speech expressed her gratitude to NPC saying that, ‘the electrification of Pilas Island is the beginning of the island’s continued progress.”
