On June 15, NPC โ€“ Angat Watershed Area Team together with local counterparts of the DENR and the 70th Infantry Battalion 7th Infantry Division of the Philippine Army conducted a foot patrol and checkpoint in Barangay Sapang Bulak in Doรฑa Remedios Trinidad in Bulacan as part of its watershed protection initiatives.

The team was able to apprehend two individuals and their motorcycle carrying lauan lumbers. The lumbers were confiscated and will be subject to adjudication procedures.

NPC and its partner agencies like the DENR and the Philippine Army regularly hold patrolling operations to combat timber poaching and other illegal activities in the watershed reservations.

โ€œWe enjoin communities to partner with us and join this mighty cause of protecting our watersheds that nourish life, protect water supply, and keep our biodiversity abundant. Without healthy watersheds, we would suffer from water scarcity and warming up of the atmosphere among others,โ€ NPC urged.

As mandated by Republic Act 9136 or EPIRA, NPC is tasked to undertake watershed management in 11 watershed reservations in the country which covers around 485 thousand hectares.
