NPC arrives in Hilotongan Island, grants electricity to some 200 homes

NPC has granted power to Hilotongan Island, Bantayan in Cebu as it successfully inaugurates an 80 kW genset on November 21, 2021.

Hilotongan Diesel Power Plant now provides eight hours of power supply to an initial connection of 200 households. The local barangay estimates another 600 potential households yet to be energized.

The facility’s switch-on ceremony was led by NPC’s VP for SPUG, Larry Sabellina, Bantayan Mayor Arthur Despi, BANELCO General Manager Lee D. Rivera and representatives from the local government offices.

NPC, as mandated by the Electric Power Industry Reform Act of 2001 or Republic Act 9136, is tasked to perform missionary electrification in the farthest communities and islands not connected to the main grid. It is in this capacity that the corporation operates 276 Small Power Utilities Group (SPUG) plants in around 180 municipalities across 35 provinces in the country.
