NPC grants 24/7 power to Naro Island, Masbate

Around 1, 200 households will now enjoy round-the-clock power in Naro Island, an island located off the coast of Masbate and part of the Municipality of Cawayan.
The 24/7 power was made possible after NPC’s Bicol Operations Division

commissioned two new 180 kW generating sets which brought Naro Diesel Power Plant’s (rated) capacity to 630 kW.
A simple program was held to celebrate the event with Cawayan Mayor Edgar S. Condor leading the switch-on. With the additional capacities, around 900 new households can be accommodated by the mini-grid. This is another project in the pipeline as NPC targets to extend the distribution line on the island.
It can be recalled that NPC first brought electricity to the island in 2016 with an initial 600 connected households.
NPC as mandated by the Electric Power Industry Reform Act of 2001 or Republic Act 9136 is tasked to bring light to far-flung islands and communities in the country. Currently, it operates 276 Small Power Utilities Group (SPUG) power plants in almost 200 municipalities.
