NPC energizes new area in Bisucay Island, Cuyo, Palawan
The National Power Corporation inaugurates a new power facility in Bisucay Island, Cuyo, Palawan on Saturday, February 27, 2021, providing 8-hour electricity to 424 connected households.
The project was made possible by the cooperation and support of the Provincial Government of Palawan who built the powerhouse to expedite the energization in the island. Bisucay Diesel Power Plant will be maintained by two local operators who will be reporting daily to the NPC’s SPUG Palawan Operations. The power facility has 100kW capacity and that additional 2 units of 50kW are set to be delivered by the end of this year.
In his brief message during the turn-over program, Cuyo Municipal Mayor Mark L. Delos Reyes expressed gratitude for NPC’s takeover of the power generation function in the island and the extended operating hours of electricity to eight (8) hours from its previous four-hour operation by the local government unit.
Bisucay is the nearest island to Cuyo and is only about 4 kilometers from the town pier. It is comprised of three (3) barangays namely Funda, Balading, and Caburian wherein the power plant is located.
NPC, as mandated by the Electric Power Industry Reform Act of 2001, is tasked to provide reliable electricity in off-grid islands and communities in the country. Currently, it operates and maintains 276 SPUG plants in the country.
