NPC fortifies its Seed Production Area in MakBan Watershed

In celebration of the World Environment Month, NPC’s Makiling-Banahaw Watershed Area Team (MBWAT) formally launches on June 26, 2018 its Seed Production Area which houses around 1,000 dominant molave trees (Vitex parviflora) that will be the source of seedlings and support greening programs.

The Seed Production Area is also a component under the Memorandum of Agreement between NPC and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) for the National Greening Program.

The launching which included a tree planting program was attended by partner LGUs, representatives from the Philippine Geothermal Production Company, Inc; UPLB – Makiling Center for Mountain Ecosystems; Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office of Sto. Tomas Batangas; and 1st Laguna Provincial Mobile Force Company Bay, Laguna. The volunteers were able to plant around 250 molave seedlings.

NPC manages 11 watersheds, including the Makiling Banahaw Reservation, that support power generation.
