NPC Extends Help to Yolanda Affected Areas

The power houses of the National Power Corporation (NPC) located in the Visayas region and some parts of Luzon were not spared by the wrath brought to the country by Super Typhoon Yolanda last November 2013. Twelve Small Power Utilities Group (SPUG) plants situated in Cebu, Iloilo, Antique, Samar, Palawan, Romblon and Mindoro suffered from minor damages such as damaged roofs, ceilings, fences and poles.

In situations like this, NPCs sole procedure is to restore operation as soon as possible which was properly handled by the corporation’s area and plant managers. Most of the damaged roofs and ceilings were repaired already while others resume operation while repair is still pending. However, some electric cooperatives are still working on the rehabilitation of the distribution lines. To this, NPC has deployed 173 units of generator sets of the Department of Energy that are housed to NPC warehouse at the City of San Jose del Monte in Bulacan to the affected areas right after Yolanda’s onslaught.

Furthermore, NPC has also lent a single unit of water purifying system to the Municipality of Palo in Leyte to provide the residents with potable water.

Also, before 2013 ended NPC was able to deliver and installed fourteen 600 KW generator sets (gensets) for various SPUG areas. Three gensets each were commissioned in Basco and Power Barge 116, one genset each for Sitangkai, Lubang, Power Barge111, Power Barge 109 and Casiguran while gensets for Siasi and Power Barge 113 are waiting to be commissioned but were already installed.
