As part of its 80th Founding Anniversary, NPC opens today the Livelihood and Training Center for the Dumagat Tribe in Angat Watershed Reservation. NPC President Ma. Gladys Cruz-Sta. Rita also extends her gratitude to the corporation’s partners for the project – the Angat Hydropower Corporation led by President Geung Jeon Han, San Miguel Foundation, SM and Design Center Philippines who taught more weaving skills to select members of the tribe.
The Dumagat tribe used to trade their finished products (weaved baskets made of raw materials coming from the forest) in exchange of rice and sardines. Now that their skills and products have been enhanced, they can now sell them at a competitive price.
