In celebration of the international Earth Day, the National Power Corporation joins the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and other partner agencies in a Covenant Signing today at the DENR Social Hall in Quezon City.

As the agencies inked their signatures on the covenant, they are also committing to support the aspirations of the Paris Agreement of holding the increase in the global average temperature to below 20C; scale up efforts in reducing emissions and decreasing vulnerability to the effects of climate change; and contributing to the planting of 7.8 billion trees which is one of the five major goals of the International Earth Day Movement.

President Ma. Gladys Cruz-Sta. Rita has likewise shared in the event NPC’s commitment for the environment such as rehabilitation of at least 3,337 hectares of denuded areas from 2016 to 2018, protection of 150,000 hectares of forest cover, promotion of renewable energy and continuous improvement of fuel efficiency in its SPUG plants.

The Covenant Signing coincides the signing of the Paris Agreement today at the UN Headquarters in New York, USA. The said agreement is under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change adopted during the 21st Conference of Parties (COP21).
