NPC FURTHER REDUCES ANGAT DAM WATER RELEASE

Due to the improvement of weather conditions over Angat watershed, the inflow of water to Angat Dam has drastically decreased. The National Power Corporation (NPC) has decided to further reduce the gate opening from 1.5 meters to 0.5 meter at 4 pm today, December 22.

This reduces the spill water outflow to 72 cubic meter per second (cms) from 210 cms, bringing the total reduction of water spill to 92% since it started to spill last December 20. This is still in accordance with the agreement of the Inter-Agency meeting this morning attended by NPC, Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), National Water Resources Board (NWRB), Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS), and National Irrigation Administration (NIA).

This action of NPC is expected to further mitigate the flooding downstream in some municipalities of Bulacan.

As of 4 pm, the Angat Dam has a current water elevation level of 215.07 which is still above the normal high water elevation of 212 masl.
