Member agencies of the Philippine National Committee on Large Dams (PNCOLD) gathered on Friday, February 13, 2015 at the NPC Head Office to set the direction of the group this year. Among the plans that PNCOLD aims to accomplish are the drafting and adoption of a standard Philippine Dam Guidelines and pushing for the Philippine Dam Regulatory Authority.
NPC President Ma. Gladys Cruz-Sta. Rita who also chairs PNCOLD said that the Dams Management Department of NPC will serve as the secretariat of the technical working group which will comprise of representatives from each agency namely National Power Corporation (NPC), National Irrigation Administration (NIA), Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS), San Roque Power Corporation (SRPC), SN Aboitiz, CE Casecnan Water and Energy Company, Inc., Engineering and Development Corporation of the Philippines (EDCOP), and the Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA).
An inventory of Philippine dams shall also be made by the group and so each was asked to submit profiles of dams under their stewardship.
Lastly, as member of the International Committee on Large Dams or ICOLD, the meeting discussed the forthcoming ICOLD Congress and Annual Meeting to be held in Stavanger, Norway. The conference will cover interesting topics in dam management like reservoir optimizations and design, innovative hydropower and dam project in emerging economies and project financing.
