320 Grade 8 students and of teachers from Colegio de San Agustin, Laguna visited the Bataan Nuclear Power Plant (BNPP) on September 26, 2014 as part of their educational trip that aims to enhance the students’ classroom-based knowledge on Science and Technology and Araling Panlipunan.
During the visit, Ms. Cora O. Baluyot, BNPP’s Environmental Management Specialist tackled the general information, technical specifications and the historical background of the first completely built nuclear power plant in the country but was never operated. An open discussion/question and answer followed.
The students were divided into groups and were led by Mr. Joe G. Manalo, Principal Engineer A and Mr. Willie P. Torres, Electrical Control Operator during the plant tour.
According to the participants of the tour, it was a nice and a once in a lifetime experience to learn the facts about nuclear energy.
The Bataan Nuclear Power Plant (BNPP), listed as one of the tourist destinations in Bataan by the Department of Tourism Central Luzon, has been opened to all stakeholders particularly to students gearing towards educational information and awareness on nuclear energy.
