The Pantabangan Watershed was declared as a reservation by virtue of Proclamation No. 561 on May 1969 covering a total of 84,500 hectares. It supplies water to the Pantabangan Dam, one of Asia's largest dam in the early 70's. The dam supplies irrigation to agricultural lands in Central Luzon - the most important rice producing region in the country. Pursuant to LOI-1002 and a MOA between NIA and NPC, an area of 14,166 hectares was vested to NPC to manage, protect, and rehabilitate portions of the watershed. The Pantabangan-Carranglan watershed Reservation lies between 15º 44' to 16º 88' north latitude and 120º 36' to 122º00' east longitude. It is bounded in the north, northwest, and northeast by the Caraballo Mountain Ranges while the Sierra Madre Ranges bound the south, southeast and southwest portions. The Watershed is situated in the municipalities of Pantabangan and Carranglan in the province of Nueva Ecija, municipalities of Alfonso Castañeda and Dupax del Sur, province of Nueva Vizcaya and Maria Aurora in the province of Aurora.
